Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is the use of evidence-based practice to manage and sometimes prevent chronic conditions through individualized nutrition plans. Through in-depth nutritional diagnostic, therapeutic, and counseling services, including the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of all interventions, the goal of MNT is to "move the individual along the continuum of disease management toward better nutritional health and overall well being." (Krause, 2012)

Sounds a little clinical, right? My goal at Real Good Nutrition is to make MNT more personal. I want to start our sessions where you are today and work together to find a realistic and sustainable way for you to feel better. You won't feel like you're in your doctor's office - I promise.

Get To Know Me

I get it.

Perhaps like you, I also asked myself the question "What's a dietitian and how can one help me?" which was shortly followed with "What the $#@% is gluten?" after learning I was newly diagnosed with Celiac disease. I was a 19-year-old student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and I was about to see how my lack of nutritional knowledge paired with an undying love of cheese curds, cheap late-night pizza, and Miller Lite (the strength of which can only be understood by my fellow Badgers) would lead to some serious health scares and a very strained relationship with food.

Seeking the care of a Registered Dietitian (albeit reluctantly) helped me manage my diet so I could get my health back on track. This experience led me to discover my love for supporting others going through their own battles with nutrition, and helping my patients find relief from health issues (some of which I know all too well) without straining their relationship with food is my personal passion. Having been a patient before I became a dietitian lets me connect with you on a different, much more personal level.

Only the real good stuff.

After 13 years of experience in the healthcare industry in a variety of capacities, including 10 in the field of dietetics, I felt that the typical inpatient approach to nutrition therapy and healthcare in general lacked individualization, authenticity, and a true sense of preventative care. Because I feel nutrition therapy needs to be personal, I left my scrubs behind to connect with my patients in a more meaningful way. I'll work with you to find real-life approaches to realize your health goals, whatever that means for you. And because I am firmly non-diet and fat positive, I will always create a safe environment free of diet culture and judgment for you, and our work together will always start from exactly where you are today.

Frustrated by conflicting nutrition information online? Overwhelmed by symptoms? Busy work schedule? Not into salads? I can work with all of that because I want to make the whole process helpful AND enjoyable for you.

Clinically trained with a real-life approach.

I entered in the healthcare industry as a physician's Practice Manager after completing my first Bachelor's Degree in Social Welfare from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After returning to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities for a Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics and Nutrition, I completed my dietetic training residency at the Cleveland Clinic's Center for Human Nutrition with an emphasis on clinical medical nutrition therapy. I completed additional research during my training on fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), which is one reason I’m never shy to talk about poop. Another reason is because I also have IBS and other food intolerances in addition to Celiac disease, so when I say, “I get it!” when we’re chatting about your symptoms. it’s because I really do!

A perpetual student, I went on to complete my Master's Degree in Health Administration from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. I successfully trained with Monash University on the low FODMAP diet for IBS, and I am a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. I am also a member of the Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and several Dietitian Practice Groups. I specialize in Medical Nutrition Therapy and Intuitive Eating, and I've provided care to treat and prevent a wide variety of acute and chronic illnesses as part of the medical team in long-term care, inpatient hospital, and outpatient clinic environments.
